Carpet fabric types

We clean every carpet
fabric and pile type.

Every carpet fibre responds differently to water temperature, pressure, and chemistry. Using the wrong method on wool or sisal can cause permanent shrinkage or damage. We assess your carpet type at the start of every job — before a drop of water touches it.

Wool
Natural protein fibre that shrinks if water temperature exceeds 40°C or if pH is too alkaline. We use pH-neutral solutions and low-temperature extraction (35–40°C). Common in older Adelaide homes and premium apartments.
HWE at 35–40°C · pH neutral only

Steam safe ✓
Nylon / Synthetic
The most common residential carpet fibre in Australia. Handles full-temperature HWE (up to 82°C) without damage. Nylon has a natural affinity for dye-based stains — pre-treatment with a tannin spotter is often needed for coffee, wine, and tea.
HWE up to 82°C · Tannin pre-treat

Steam safe ✓
Polyester
Polyester is inherently stain-resistant to water-based spills but holds onto oil-based stains (cooking oil, butter, makeup) because the fibre itself is hydrophobic. We use a solvent-based pre-spotter to break down lipid molecules before HWE extraction.

Specialist care
Berber / Loop pile
Berber's uncut loop construction means aggressive rotary agitation can pull or unravel loops permanently. We use a straight-wand HWE pass with no rotary head, keeping pressure moderate to avoid loop distortion. Particularly common in Adelaide offices and rental properties.
Straight wand HWE · No rotary agitation
Level loop commercial carpet texture
Steam safe ✓
Level loop / Commercial
Level loop is the standard commercial carpet in Adelaide offices. Dense construction holds dry soil well but releases it efficiently under HWE. Dry time is typically 1.5–3 hours because the low pile height retains less moisture than residential cut-pile carpets.

Frieze twist pile carpet texture
Steam safe ✓
Frieze / Twist pile
Frieze's high-twist construction hides traffic patterns well but traps particulate soil in the twist. We use a slow, deliberate HWE pass to ensure solution penetrates the full twist depth. Post-extraction grooming maintains the characteristic textured appearance.

Our process

Exactly how we clean
your carpets.

Hot water extraction — heated water and cleaning solution injected under pressure into the pile, then immediately extracted by industrial-grade vacuum motors. It reaches deeper than surface methods and removes far more than a standard vacuum.

1
Fibre identification & inspection
Before we touch your carpet we identify the fibre type — synthetic, wool, or natural. This determines water temperature (35°C for wool, up to 82°C for nylon), pH of cleaning solution, and whether HWE is appropriate at all. We also identify existing damage, permanent stains we need to flag to you, and high-traffic zones requiring extra attention.
2
Pre-vacuum & pre-spray
We vacuum first — always. Wet cleaning over dry soil turns particulate dirt into a muddy suspension that's harder to extract. Pre-vacuuming removes loose debris before pre-spray solution is applied. Pre-spray is a pH-appropriate alkaline or neutral pre-conditioner that loosens oily residue, body oils, and embedded grime. It dwells for 5–10 minutes before extraction begins.
3
Spot treatment & stain pre-treatment
Individual stains are treated with chemistry matched to the stain class before the main extraction pass. Protein stains (blood, urine, food) get an enzyme treatment with protease enzymes and cold water — hot water sets protein permanently. Tannin stains (coffee, wine, tea) get an oxidising agent or tannin spotter. Oil and grease stains get a solvent-based pre-spotter. We never pour product directly on carpet — it goes on a cloth first to avoid over-wetting the backing.
4
Extraction, grooming & dry
The HWE wand is drawn slowly across the carpet in overlapping passes — rushing leaves solution and soil behind. Industrial extraction motors remove far more moisture than hire machines, which is why our dry times are shorter. After extraction the pile is groomed in a uniform direction to prevent matting during drying. We advise on ventilation — open windows, fans on dry setting — to achieve the fastest dry time. Most Adelaide homes: 2–4 hours. Wool and thick pile: up to 6 hours. Natural fibres: treated differently — we advise at inspection.
Why CleanO Plus

Carpet cleaning
Adelaide trusts.

🧪
Stain chemistry matched to stain class
We classify each stain before treating it. Protein stains (blood, urine, egg) need enzyme cleaners with protease in cold water — hot water cooks protein into the fibre permanently. Tannin stains (coffee, wine, tea) need an oxidising tannin spotter. Oil and grease need a dry solvent. Getting the chemistry wrong on the first attempt can set a stain that was removable. We don't use one product on every stain.
✋
We're honest about what won't come out
Some stains are permanent — heat-set protein stains, bleach damage, certain hair dyes, and iron-set rust. We tell you this before we start, not after you've paid. If we can't improve a stain we say so upfront. The IICRC S100 standard we follow requires identifying spots and their treatability before cleaning begins — not after.
⏱
Industrial extraction = faster dry time
Professional-grade HWE equipment extracts significantly more moisture than hire units. This matters — carpets that stay wet for 12–24 hours risk mould growth in the backing, especially in Adelaide's warmer months. Our machines combined with correct grooming and ventilation get most Adelaide homes walkable in 2–4 hours.

FAQs

Common questions about
carpet steam cleaning.

It depends on carpet thickness, fibre type, ambient temperature, and airflow. Most synthetic carpets (nylon, polyester) in Adelaide conditions dry in 2–4 hours with adequate ventilation. Wool and thick-pile carpets hold more moisture and may take 4–6 hours. Natural fibre carpets like sisal and jute are treated with low-moisture methods specifically because they can take 12–24 hours to dry with conventional HWE — and can suffer tannin browning during that time. Opening windows and running fans or air conditioning on a dry setting cuts drying time significantly. We advise on this at the end of every job.
Red wine and coffee are tannin-based stains — they respond well to oxidising tannin spotters when treated promptly. The longer they've been in the carpet, the harder they are to lift. Fresh spills have a much higher success rate than stains that have been there for months. Pet urine is a protein stain that also leaves uric acid crystals and ammonia odour in the backing. Surface extraction removes the stain, but odour in the backing requires enzyme treatment with dwell time. We'll assess and tell you honestly what to expect before we start — not after payment. Some stains are genuinely permanent and we say so upfront.
Yes. We provide a receipt and job confirmation that you can present to your property manager or real estate agent as evidence the carpets were professionally steam cleaned.
Hot water extraction is appropriate for most nylon, polyester, wool blend, and cut-pile carpets when the correct temperature and pH are used. Wool requires lower temperature water (35–40°C) and pH-neutral or mildly acidic solution — alkaline cleaning agents can felt wool fibres permanently. Berber and loop-pile carpets are safe with straight wand HWE but not rotary agitation, which can unravel the loops. Sisal, jute, seagrass, and coir are not suitable for HWE — they absorb water into the plant fibre structure and can shrink, brown, and distort. Antique or hand-knotted rugs are also generally not suitable. We identify your carpet type before any water touches it.
A single room typically starts from $80–$100. Whole-house cleans for 3–4 bedroom Adelaide homes generally range from $150–$300 depending on carpet condition and add-ons. End of lease cleans, pet treatment, and heavy stain removal add to the base cost. We quote a fixed price before we start — what we quote is what you pay. We don't add charges on the day after seeing the carpet.
Light furniture like dining chairs can be moved by us at no extra charge. Heavy furniture like beds and sofas we ask that you move beforehand, or we can quote for this separately. Tell us when you book and we'll advise.
